The Miramichi River.  It brings to mind…. beauty and tranquility in the rolling hills of its valley…..a place of simpler times in the spirit of its people……and heart-beating exhilaration in the pull of its mighty Atlantic salmon on the line of a fisherman.

If you’ve ever been here you appreciate the surrounding beauty as you patiently cast your line attempting to outsmart the sometimes elusive salmon.  If you’ve ever had an Atlantic salmon on the end of your line, you know its strength, especially in the spring when the fish are plentiful and restless, finally free from the grip of winter’s freeze and anxious for food.   You understand the thrill of that battle, your rod bowed, your arms exhausted, when you finally reel him to your boat.

Been a while since you’ve been here and yearning to come back?  Never experienced this thrill and want to try it?  Why wait any longer?!  O’Donnell’s Cottages (3 ½ star Outfitter) specializes in spring fishing (black salmon) and summer day-adventure fishing packages for the mighty Atlantic salmon.  Whether you’re an experienced fisher or a beginner, O’Donnell’s offers affordable and practical options for you:

Spring Fishing:
The Black (Spring) salmon season opens April 15 and usually continues through to mid-May when the salmon then leave the river for the ocean (depending on water levels).

A typical day of spring fishing begins early in the morning when your guide arrives at the shore of your cottage in his flat bottom motor-boat (after you’ve just enjoyed a scrumptious home-cooked breakfast and fresh coffee).  Your guide will travel you to various locations along the river and advise you on technique (if you’re a beginner) and fly choice.  At noon-time return to O’Donnell’s for a hearty lunch and warm up by the dining room fireplace.  After you’ve warmed up and had a break, your guide will take you out fishing for the afternoon.  Return at supper-time to enjoy a traditional Miramichi supper.  Your all-inclusive package and rate is detailed below.

Summer & Fall Day-Adventure Salmon Fishing:
Offered to our cottage vacationers, this option allows guests to try their hand at the sport of fly-fishing for ½ a day or a full day, without the high cost of other outfitters.  Add this day-sport to your other outdoor adventures during your stay with us between late June – October 15.  See package details below.

Trout Fishing:

The often under-rated, but exceptional fishery is the trout fishing available on the Miramichi River and its tributaries.  During your stay with us try the much sought after fresh sea-run trout between May 1-June 1 on the main river, or fish for brown trout in nearby brooks between May 1 - September 15.

All Inclusive Spring Fishing Packages Your all-inclusive package includes: ·        accommodations in a comfortable, fully equipped cottage (1-3 bedrooms, full kitchen and bathroom, fireplace, verandah, great view of the river) ·        home-cooked meals in our dining room ·        one-on-one with a professional fishing guide for the full day    Rate:  $325 per person per day (based on double occupancy and minimum stay of 3 days/4nights; plus license and HST)

Summer/Fall Day-Adventure Packages ·    fishing with professional guide (1/2 day – 4 hours; Full day – 8 hours) ·        fly-fishing and casting instruction ·        fishing equipment ·        day adventure fishing license (catch & release only)   Rate:   ½ Day: $129 per person or $199 per couple (plus HST) Full Day: $199 per person or $299 per couple (plus HST)

Trout Fishing Designed for our overnight guests as an additional outdoor adventure experience, trout fishing is a great low cost option for families with children.   Rate: Cost of a trout license for 3 days is $28.50 (2007 rate) - children under the age of 16 do not need a license when fishing with an adult who has a license A small charge for transportation to fishing site may apply. A guide is not required when fishing in the brooks; however, a guide is required for non-residents when fishing trout in the main Miramichi River ($150/day).

		General Information Waders, rods and reels are available on site and can be rented separately. Non-resident fishing licenses are available on site.
